Marketing Director

In a nutshell:

IDEO is in search of a Marketing Director to join our Shanghai location. As the senior marketing leader in the location, you will work closely with location leaders to set and oversee marketing strategy for IDEO in China, cultivate the thought leadership that distinguishes our people and their work, and be a resource to project teams seeking counsel on marketing communications and strategy. You will also act as a hub and internal ambassador for IDEO on all marketing matters related to China.

Once here you will:

Increase influence:

  • Nurture and increase IDEO’s influence by setting IDEO’s marketing strategy and plan in China in collaboration with location leadership, global marketing colleagues and business development effort
  • Allocate resources, assess impact, and have primary accountability for driving marketing efforts
  • Work closely with marketing colleagues in other parts of the world to leverage news and stories where appropriate to generate relevant opportunities
  • Create, shape and manage field marketing and media opportunities, steward IDEO’s brand while navigating these opportunities
  • Drive and develop, in collaboration with internal and external resources IDEO’s online presence in China

Articulate who we are and what we do

  • Work internally with relevant colleagues on cultivating thought leadership, shaping and coaching on messaging and presentation
  • Help shape and express stories of our work, and curate a portfolio of stories that represent the range of our work, people, capabilities and impact

Build relationship:

  • Nurture productive relationships with the media
  • Initiate and lead alliances with relevant industry groups, key opinion formers, key forums and other stakeholder groups
  • Foster relationship with relevant local freelancers, partners and agencies to extend our marketing capacity and capabilities

Develop relevant systems:

  • Maintain a database of media contacts
  • Produce, manage, and develop a system and a suite of online & print marketing tools and materials where needed
  • Work either as a team member of or an advisor to client project teams where marketing and communication expertise is needed
  • Contribute to business development effort where marketing and communication skills are called for

Relevant experience and mindset:

  • 12-15 years of brand management experience in reputable global organizations, preferably in B2B industries with deep knowledge in engaging senior executives.
  • Have a proven track record of building lean and sustainable system to generate and place thought leadership that is reflective of IDEO’s mission in creating systemic change in China.
  • Extremely media-savvy with a network in top tier media in China
  • Native fluency in Chinese and English with impeccable writing skills.
  • Be an articulate, accurate, and timely communicator
  • Have the ability to build and sustain momentum, and keep an eye on the big picture while managing the details
  • Have a passion for brand, marketing, communications and design
  • Have experience working in a creative environment and international working culture
