Tony is a Partner at IDEO. Based in Shanghai, he is responsible for IDEO’s success in China and working with clients to use design as a tool to enable growth.
Specifically, he has helped Chinese companies lead in China by designing holistic brand solutions though the development of their products, communication, services and innovation teams. He has also helped multinationals expand their presence and influence in China through advising global leaders on developing China-led innovation and capabilities. Some of his clients are: CR Land, Vanke, Midea, Fotile Kitchenware, Vivo, Coca Cola, Kimberly Clark, L'Oreal, Sephora, Mattel, Medtronics, Merck, and Nike.
Tony has been experimenting and pushing the edges of how IDEO's design approach and process can be adopted, adapted, evolved and advanced through learnings from China and inspirations from other markets. This effort has enabled the use of design to achieve positive impacts on people's lives in multiple areas including: elevated quality of experience of healthcare products and services, streamlined and leaner processes that increase productivity, spaces and programs that promote and enable inclusive communities, and next generation mobility solutions that are planet-positive.
Before joining IDEO in 2008, Tony worked at Philips Electronics in Singapore and the Netherlands. His work ranged from future-setting designs that provide a long-term vision for the brand to mass-market products that sell in highly competitive environments. Prior to Philips Electronics, Tony worked in Italy at the Electrolux Group, designing home appliances for the European market with a focus on the communication of brand values through product styling.
Tony’s work has won several international design awards including the prestigious iF and Red Dot awards, and has been featured in prominent business and design media. He is a sought-after speaker and spokesperson on topics to do with how design and innovation can be used to rethink company vision and commercial strategies for business growth. He is a member of the Young President Organization in Shanghai.
Tony holds a product design degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK.
